How AI Applications Work

A simple conversation between a manager and their direct report.

The interaction model for using tools like Gemini or ChatGPT is best understood not as a technical process, but as a simple, structured conversation. The quality of the final deliverable is almost entirely dependent on the quality of the initial instructions.

1. You (The Manager)

Provide an Instruction (The Prompt). This is your project brief. You define the task, the context, the desired output, and any constraints.

2. The AI (The Intern)

The AI takes your prompt and uses its vast training (the LLM) to understand the request and formulate a response.

3. The Result (The Deliverable)

The AI produces the deliverable—an email, a summary, a table, a list of ideas—based strictly on the instructions it was given.

The critical takeaway from this model is the principle of "Garbage In, Garbage Out."

A vague prompt will yield a generic, unhelpful output. Conversely, a clear, detailed, and well-structured prompt provides the AI with everything it needs to succeed.
